DOES YOUR SMILE FIT PROPERLY?
It is possible that the reason you are having fewer smiles occurring
in your life is that your own smile no longer fits properly! There
is a simple procedure for testing the fit and a simple set of rules
to follow to remedy the problem.
First, go to a mirror and show yourself a smile. If the results
are satisfactory, try it on others. A sure sign that a smile is
working properly is that other faces will imitate it. If you present
your smile and the response by the other face is one that is upside
down, this is not necessarily a sign that yours is unfit. It may
mean that the other face is out of order. Try to take a closer look,
and if you feel you can deliver the news softly enough, try mentioning
that the smile isn't adjusted properly. Remember, informing others
that their smiles are improperly presented can cause abrupt changes
in their biochemical reactions. If you tell them gently enough,
the results may fall forward dramatically. Yes, it is possible that
a laugh might intervene, circumventing the smile altogether. In
this case, it is appropriate to drink it in. Good chemistry all
around. Now, this can mean that a laugh back is in order. Good again.
Lift your own smile , widen your jaw, show your teeth, and pulse
out a hearty laugh. (Do not try this with primates other than human!
Others such as chimpanzees consider it a sign of aggression. If
you get the same response as a chimpanzee from a human, you might
want to consider reevaluating your idea of this one's relationship
to other humans. And beware! )
A properly fitting smile fits happily into all elevated human relationships
and is useful virtually all the time. Even during sleep it is applicable.
If the smiling practice should graduate to more laughing than usual,
so much the better, but remember, there is a fine art to laughing,
and to assume you know all there is to know without further study
is like assuming that just because you are sitting in a chair you
know how to rock.
Laughter art discussion to follow. Now, go forth and generate smiles
that fit everywhere.
