Found Objects: Her Homework
by Jen Payne

The sun was bright that morning, the sky blue. People scurried about in the morning rush--store fronts opening, kids off to school, cars pushing their way through the traffic on the cobblestone streets. We were in Honfleur, a lovely seaside town in the Normandy region of France--on our way to the post office to mail postcards home, five days into our whirlwind trips across France.

On the freshly washed sidewalk in front of me, I noticed bright colors. A sheet of paper stuck to the ground. Her homework. It's become my favorite souvenir.

For more found objects, see Found Magazine, a fun and interesting collection of found objects: love letters, birthday cards, to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, doodles--anything that gives a glimpse into someone else's life. About themselves, they say "We certainly didn't invent the idea of found stuff being cool. Every time we visit our friends in other towns, someone's always got some kind of unbelievable discovered note or photo on their fridge. We decided to make a bunch of projects so that everyone can check out all the strange, hilarious and heartbreaking things people have picked up and passed our way."
