BELIEVE
I remember, as a little girl, laying in bed on Christmas eve wishing
to hear the sound of Santa on the roof.
I believed.
Didn't we all...in Santa and reindeer? in elves? in the North Pole?
We believed in the "Christmas Spirit."
It's hard, these days, to be so wide-eyed. You can't turn on the television
without reports of violence--at home, overseas, against children,
against each other. We're disenchanted with politics, with the economy,
with our quality of life.
Christmas--now a politically correct "holiday"--is over-commercialized
to the point that "biggest sale ever" has replaced traditional season's
greetings and we now consider lotto tickets and paper shredders ideal
gifts for loved ones.
And yet...it finds us.
Almost like we believed
Santa could,
the
Christmas
spirit
tumbles
down
the
chimney
and...
We delight in the colorful lights in storefronts and in doorways!
We watch the Grinch and It's a Wonderful Life! We joyfully sing along
to Christmas songs on the radio! We decorate the tree and feast on
cookies and fruit cake!
And...we believe.
Believe in peace on earth
Believe in the goodness of others.
Believe in charity and hope.
Believe, even, in Santa.
May this find you believing in all that can be Christmas, and may
it be just the way you imagine!
